5. What is Express Registration and how do I sign-up for it?
Express Registration is part of our ongoing effort to make the acting registration
process easier for you. We now have the ability to securely store your credit
card information for future class registrations. We store this information
in your family file so when you send an email request for a class, if your
child is enrolled in the class, your payment will automatically be made
and you will receive an email confirmation. This eliminates the steps of
you waiting for call from us, and having to worry about calling back in
the 24 hour period. To sign-up for Express Registration, contact the front
desk for the necessary paperwork.
6. What happens if the classes that I try to register for are full?
Occasionally this happens. Once a class is full, we begin a waiting list
for that specific class, day and time. If there are any openings, we fill
those spots in the order of the waiting list.
7. Which class should my child be in?
Acting for Camera 1 or Film 1? Placement depends solely on the child's current
age and current or just completed grade. Acting for Camera (AC) classes
Kindergarten through 3rd grade Film classes 4th grade through 12th grade
Please note, during the summer the student must have completed Kindergarten
or 4th grade to be considered for one of these classes.
8. What if my child has previous acting experience or acting classes?
Because our classes are progressive in nature, all students start with AC1
or Film 1. Some parents have expressed concerns that their child might be
more advanced than the other students in the class because of their previous
experience. We have found even the experienced actor gains new insight into
his or her acting ability by following our progression of classes. In addition,
our classes require some experience and Mrs. Sullivan keeps informed of
all students taking classes in her program, even those that she does not
personally teach. If there is a rare student that needs to move to a higher
level class, the parent will be contacted. However, this is on an invitation
only basis.
9. After finishing AC1 or Film 1, what next?
Students move up to the next level within the same series.
10. What if my child took a previous Cathryn Sullivan's Acting for Film
class but it was a while ago?
Generally, if you are in beginning AC or Film classes, and it has been more
than one year since you have taken your class, Mrs. Sullivan asks that you
repeat the last class you took. In some cases, especially in Film classes,
you may be asked to begin the series again if needed. Higher level students
need to get written class placement by Mrs. Sullivan before registering
for classes.
11. How do you transition from AC classes to Film classes?
Once a student completes 4th grade, they may move to Film classes. Please
keep in mind there is not a direct correlation between the numbering of
AC classes and Film classes. Therefore most students start with Film 1 classes,
unless they have completed AC3 or higher and then they start in Film 2.
The reason for this is Film classes are not only progressive, but they are
more challenging and demanding of the student.
12. Why is there such a strict registration process?
We are frequently asked this question by new Acting for Film families. However,
just ask some of the families that have been around for a while and you
will understand. Mrs. Sullivan's classes are in high demand because the
success of so many of her students. She is the "go to" acting coach for
many LA casting directors and studio execs. Students come from all over
the country to take her classes. In the old registration process, people
would sit for hours (and some even slept in their cars) to make sure they
got into the classes. The current registration process was designed to eliminate
the amount of time you have to spend to register for a class, and it gives
everyone the same opportunity. We are constantly trying to improve the systems
so watch for more exciting changes in the future!
