Welcome
to Play for Sport!
Play
for Sports' indoor sports facility offers programs for children
at all levels of sports play. Our exciting and engaging Sports
Readiness curriculum is perfect for the toddler and preschooler.
This program offers dynamic and creative games to help keep young
children with short attention spans engaged while learning new
skills and terms. Our intermediate and advanced classes focus
on enhancing and developing sport specific skills while increasing
their overall knowledge of the game. Speciality classes in Baseball,
Soccer, and Basketball are for children already playing on organized
teams that want to focus on a specific sport and it skills. All
of our classes incorporate conditioning and agility to give the
children the athleticism they need to perform on the field.
Whether
your child is entering sports for the first time or wants to build
upon the skills they already have, Play for Sport has a program
to fit every need!
How
is Sports Skills for Kids different from other sports programs?
Play
For Sport incorporates all aspects of development in preparing
children for organized sports. In addition to learning and acquiring
skills for various sports, children develop an understanding of
agility, physical fitness, and the mental focus that is required
to play sports and be a productive member of an organized team.
Even if your child chooses not to join an organized team, they
will learn skills and healthy habits that will benefit them for
years to come! Play For Sport makes each class exciting and engaging
by incorporating imaginative drills to keep young minds focused
and determined. Coaches work hard to build confidence and an overall
love of physical activity in every child!
Class
structure:
The coach to player ratio is never more than 1:8. In most cases,
every child will have their own equipment. Drills are arranged
in such a manner that there is either little or no waiting to
take turns. Most drills are performed as a group to eliminate
the possibility of children losing focus. In drills where taking
turns is necessary, children are encouraged to cheer on their
“teammates” in an effort to build teamwork.
Progress:
Your child’s progress will be charted so you may see when they’re
ready to move onto the next level. We encourage communication
and you may discuss your child’s progress with their coach at
any time. Each class level has their own shirt which may be purchased
as soon as you have completed your first two week’s of classes
at your new class level.
Coaches:
All Play For Sport coaches are NYSCA certified and have a background
of sports play in one or multiple sports. Play For Sport coaches
are specially trained to work with young children and know how
to keep them engaged and excited each week.
About Play For Sport
PreSchool
and PreK Programs
The Play for Sport offers a Sports Readiness program designed
to prepare preschoolers for recreational, organized and competitive
sports play. Children are entering organized sports at younger
ages each year, and many are unprepared for the difference between
free play and organized team play. Play for Sport emphasizes sportsmanship
and fair play while introducing the players to a variety of sports.
Through fun games and skill drills children learn the basic rules
and skills needed for sports such as soccer, basketball, T-Ball,
football, hockey, and more! Exposure to multiple sports helps
the children decide what sport they may want to focus on as they
get older. Young children enjoy a variety and look forward to
new and exciting games each week. Why sign up for a season of
just one sport when your child can try them all? Playing sports
does much more for a child than simply keep them active. If coached
properly, sports can instill important life skills and values
that young players can carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Participating in the Play For Sport program teaches a child at
least:
·
Sportsmanship
·
Conflict Resolution
·
Imagination
·
Relaxation
·
Respect
·
Concentration
·
Cooperation
·
Self-Esteem
Agility and conditioning is part of every class. Children are
not born coordinated; it is a learned trait just as walking and
talking. It is important for children to master balance and coordination
by the age of 5 or they may have difficulty reaching their full
potential to do so. With Play For Sport children will work on
balance, proper running form, and agility in every class. They
will also learn about their muscles and how they help them accomplish
the many skills they will be learning. Importance is placed upon
nutrition, conditioning, and an active lifestyle as part of weekly
discussions during warm up and cool down periods. As your child
progresses with mental focus and physical abilities, they will
move up to more advanced classes so they may continue to enhance
and master their sports skills and increase their overall knowledge
of the various sports and rules of the games.
School
Aged Sports
Play For Sport offers classes for school aged children that are
looking for a place to play sports but don’t necessarily want
to join an organized team. We also offer advanced classes for
children that have decided to focus on a specific sport. We currently
offer advanced classes on baseball, soccer, and basketball.
